D150 Hybrid VTOL - 150kg MTOW VTOL for Delivery Design Story

As an engineer in an ADL engineering group, every day is a challenging day, which is the greatest passion of everyone working at ADL.

D150 is a project we started at the beginning of last year. At the beginning, it was just an idea in our customer's mind. When he came to us that day to describe some of his fragmentary ideas, such as large load capacity, vertical take-off and landing, long endurance, the need for power system redundancy, and the need for perfect aerodynamic design, we gave him a preliminary plan and design sketch in the second week. I can still clearly remember the smile on the customer's face when he saw the plan.

When the project entered the aerodynamic design phase, we all worked overtime together, exchanging design ideas and aerodynamic calculations, and finally completed the CFD of D150.

We have done both aircraft exterior and interior structural designs, so that it could meet the workability and durability.

As well as the structural strength calculations to ensure that every part of the aircraft can withstand external pressure well.

When we entered the stage of designing and selecting the internal avionics equipment of the aircraft, we encountered some challenges. The customer required that all avionics equipment should not occupy the "cargo cabin", so we had to install all avionics equipment, fuel tanks and batteries in the limited upper fuselage space without affecting the aircraft's weight distribution, avionics heat dissipation capacity, center of gravity, flight capability, and even the maximum endurance and maximum load of the aircraft. Finally, after dozens of attempts and modifications, we achieved the optimal solution for the avionics equipment of the D150.

In the final stage of design, we conducted all design data review, which was also our advantage, because our huge database of successful aircraft designs makes our aircraft design safer and more reliable.

When the design is completed, we will make a set of simple molds based on the design of the aircraft, so that we can manufacture a prototype of the aircraft, and facilitate testing of the flight prototype to actually demonstrate the feasibility of our aircraft design.

Flight testing is the only way to verify aircraft design. We have the most professional aircraft pilots. Their professional flight knowledge reduces the risk factor during flight testing and effectively saves customers' costs.

Thank you for your time reading this "engineers' chatter". Let's end this article with the video shot during the prototype test below.
